V60
The Hario V60 was the second piece of equipment which I purchased as I progressed into speciality coffee. Back then, I didn't have a burr grinder or a precision kettle; I was just a curious soul with a scale, a kitchen thermometer, and a plastic V60. I was just pouring water straight from the kettle onto the bed of coffee - no flow control, no timing; and it was still 10 times better than a French Press. It delivers a clean, bright cup of coffee, unlike the heavy, full-of-sediment FP.
To me, the V60 is the true gateway into the specialty universe. It serves as a constant reminder that a simple, Rs. 700 plastic dripper can outcompete equipment I own which is ten times its price. It taught me that great coffee, much like great racing, depends on the driver and not the car.
